5 Fast Takeaways from Brad Holmes’ Press Conference on 3/26

Both Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell spoke to the media on 3/26 at the 2024 Owners Meetings. Here are our quick takeaways from Brad's presser.

5. Brad Really Likes Talking About Not Having a 1st Round Pick

“Whether you’re picking at 29 or you know, on day two…”

Brad Holmes continues to float the idea that the Lions will not pick in the first round in the 2024 draft. Is this to prepare fans for the inevitable, let other teams know that the 29th overall pick is available, or a complete smokescreen? Only time will tell, but we can all be sure that Brad won't hold onto the first round pick solely because the draft is being held in the Lions backyard.

4. “We’re still not done yet.”

Although Brad said the Lions have signed all of their top targets other than Josh Reynolds, they aren't done yet. During Dan Campbell's media appearance, he also stated the team is actively looking for safety help and is probably not done at corner as well.

3. No Gold Stars for Availability

When asked about his affinity for injured free agents and draft prospects, Brad summed up his approach by saying no player is guaranteed to be available all season, and that he doesn't give players extra points for being available. Brad is looking for the best player and best fit for the team regardless of their injury history.

2. Amik Robertson's Ability on the Outside Got Brad "Excited"

“When he slid outside this past year and did an admirable job, it got me even more excited about his fit."

Brad and Dan seemed to hint that Amik Robertson will play on the outside for the Lions. They also had concerns that Amik would go elsewhere after they completed the trade for Carlton Davis. Thankfully for the Lions, Amik wanted to come to Detroit and is ready to earn his role on the team.

  1. Other Quick Notes

  • Brad skipped the U of M pro day to attend Alabama's pro day.

  • “He’s gonna make so many other things better.” - Brad Holmes on the impact D.J. Reader will have.

  • Brad reiterated that a draft prospect does not have to have a clear future role on the team to be drafted. Brad cited Branch and Campbell, who were "just the best player available at that spot."

  • Brad believes Moseley can contribute soon. "I think he's still on track."

  • Brad believes this is by far their best FA class.
